OpenAI has launched Sora 2, a major upgrade to its video-generation model that creates highly realistic, physics-aware videos from text prompts. The tool, paired with a TikTok-style vertical video feed, is still invite-only but already drawing controversy.
Users have begun generating deepfake videos of both living and deceased celebrities — from Gandhi driving a Toyota Supra to JFK discussing AI — despite OpenAI’s rule requiring explicit consent for such likenesses.
Critics say Sora 2 enables disrespectful and harmful content, raising concerns about deepfake misuse, misinformation, and ethical violations. OpenAI has not yet issued a public response to the growing backlash.
