Apple is developing new satellite features for future iPhones, though progress depends on major upgrades to Globalstar’s network, which may soon be acquired by SpaceX.
Planned features include:
Satellite-powered Apple Maps for offline navigation.
Enhanced satellite messaging with photo support.
“Natural usage” connectivity, allowing satellite links even indoors or in cars, without pointing the phone at the sky.
If successful, these upgrades would make iPhones far more useful in areas without 5G or Wi-Fi.
