Apple’s early iPhone 17 launch results in China look strong. After Tim Cook said the lineup was “very well received,” new data from Counterpoint Research shows that iPhone sales jumped 22% in China during the first month after launch — even as the overall market fell 2.7%.
The iPhone 17 series made up nearly 80% of Apple’s smartphone sales in that period. This contrasts sharply with last year, when sales dropped 5% after the iPhone 16 launch.
Cook previously attributed any Q4 softness to supply constraints, not weak demand, and said Apple expects to return to growth in China this quarter. Despite limited government subsidies, Apple says the strong demand for the iPhone 17 stands on its own.
