Thieves prefer iPhones due to their enhanced resale value

In 2025, Android phones aren’t cheaper than iPhones — Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra costs more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max and foldables like the Z Fold 7 hit $2,000. Yet London thieves still overwhelmingly prefer stealing iPhones. According to the Metropolitan Police, over 117,000 phones were stolen in London in 2024, but criminals often return Samsung devices because they have lower resale value. Multiple victims said thieves either handed their Samsung back or threw it away. Experts say it’s purely economics: iPhones hold their value far better on the secondhand market. Security isn’t the issue — both iOS and Android have strong anti-theft protections. In the ongoing iPhone vs Android debate, even thieves seem to agree: they don’t want your Samsung.
