Verizon is laying off over 13,000 workers

Verizon plans to lay off over 13,000 employees — about 13% of its workforce — as part of a major cost-cutting and restructuring effort. New CEO Dan Schulman says the company needs to simplify operations, reduce outsourced labor and refocus on customer experience. The cuts come amid subscriber losses and major investments in Verizon’s internet expansion. Affected US employees will be notified immediately, with international notifications to follow. Verizon is creating a $20 million reskilling fund to help departing workers transition into new roles.
