Apple beat Samsung to be the top phone seller in the world

Apple widened its lead over Samsung in the global smartphone market in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research. Global shipments grew 2% year-on-year, with Apple taking a 20% market share and posting 10% growth, compared to Samsung’s 19% share and 5% growth.

Apple benefited from strong demand in emerging markets, a shift toward premium phones, and continued sales of both iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models. Samsung saw steady but slower growth, while Google and Nothing posted strong gains, and OPPO’s shipments declined due to weakness in China.
