Apple was fined a total of $851 million in 2025 for privacy and antitrust violations, down sharply from $2.1 billion in 2024, according to data compiled by Proton. The fines included penalties in South Korea, France, the EU and Italy for privacy breaches and abusing its App Store dominance.
Despite the headline figures, Proton argues the penalties are too small to be effective. Apple could reportedly cover all of its 2025 fines in just over three days using free cash flow, highlighting concerns that Big Tech treats fines as a routine cost of doing business rather than a real deterrent.
