A Reddit user reports a new IMEI scam where a stranger asked to use their phone, secretly dialed *#06# to reveal the IMEI number, possibly photographed it using Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses and fled. The victim later received a notification that their phone was unlocked.
With an IMEI number, scammers can clone, block, track devices or commit SIM fraud. Experts warn never to hand your phone to strangers – especially those wearing camera-equipped smart glasses – and to contact your carrier and bank immediately if you suspect your IMEI was compromised.
