Meta is reportedly bringing its shelved smartwatch back to life

The wearable tech market is heating up again as Meta reportedly revives its smartwatch plans to compete with devices like the Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch and Google Pixel Watch. According to reports, Meta is working on a new smartwatch (codenamed “Malibu 2”) expected to launch later this year, featuring health tracking and an integrated Meta AI assistant.

The renewed effort follows a strategy meeting led by Mark Zuckerberg and comes after the success of the company’s Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Meta is also preparing a new version of those glasses (Hypernova 2) and developing AR glasses (Artemis) planned for release in 2027.

Meta had previously cancelled its smartwatch project in 2022, but its recent momentum in wearables appears to have pushed the company to re-enter the smartwatch market.
