YouTube appears to be shutting down background playback for non-Premium users on mobile browsers. Reports show that third-party browsers like Samsung Internet, Brave, Vivaldi and Edge now stop playback when the screen turns off or you switch apps, removing a popular workaround. YouTube has confirmed this is intentional, saying background play is meant to be exclusive to Premium subscribers. While some users still see inconsistent success in Brave, the workaround is likely being phased out entirely.
