Apple may soon join Android brands in adopting 200MP smartphone cameras. According to a well-known leaker, the company is currently testing a large 200MP sensor – likely Sony’s LYT-901 – for future iPhones.
Brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO and HONOR already use this technology. A larger 200MP sensor would improve light capture, delivering brighter, sharper photos with less noise, especially in low light and enable up to 4x lossless zoom.
The sensor being tested is even bigger than the one in the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which could further enhance image quality. However, Apple is still in the testing phase, and there’s no guarantee it will make it into a final product – though it could debut with the iPhone 19 lineup next year.
Meanwhile, Android competitors continue to push ahead, with some devices already exploring dual 200MP camera setups.
