Sam Altman previously revealed plans for an “adult mode” in ChatGPT that would allow verified adults access to less restricted content. However, OpenAI has now delayed the feature.
According to the company, the delay isn’t due to technical issues but a shift in priorities. OpenAI says it is currently focusing on improving ChatGPT’s intelligence, personality, personalization and proactive capabilities.
Although the feature is still planned, OpenAI admitted that adult mode will take more time to launch, meaning its release will likely come later than the previously expected early-2026 timeframe.
