The Premier League is adopting new offside detection technology from Genius Sports, using iPhones and machine-learning models. This system, called Semi-Assisted Offside Technology (SAOT), replaces traditional VAR systems by using 24-28 iPhones to capture 7,000-10,000 data points per match. The data creates 3D models of players to accurately track their positions and improve offside calls. This approach offers more precise player tracking than existing systems and is expected to be fully implemented later this year.
