Google expanded Earthquake Alerts System to all US states

Google’s Earthquake Alerts System, launched in 2020, is expanding to all US states and six territories. It sends alerts for quakes over magnitude 4.5, urging action if shaking is moderate to extreme. This expansion follows criticism of the system’s failure during Turkey’s 2023 earthquake, and it adds to Android’s other safety features like car crash detection and satellite SOS on Pixel 9 phones.
