Google fixes Pixel phone surveillance vulnerability

Last month, a security vulnerability was discovered in an inactive app, “Showcase.apk,” found on all Google Pixel smartphones. Originally created for Verizon in-store demos, the app could potentially expose devices to hackers. Although Google reported no evidence of active exploitation, it removed the app in its latest monthly Pixel update. The September update also includes Wi-Fi improvements for the Pixel 9 series. A more significant update, Android 15, is expected next month.
