US phone carrier is launching cell service for “high-risk” individuals

US phone carrier Cape is launching new cell service with a focus on privacy and security, targeting high-risk users like politicians, journalists and activists. As a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using UScellular’s network, Cape runs its own core to control and protect data flow. It collects minimal personal information and stores it only briefly.

Cape pairs its service with a privacy-enhanced Android phone, offering features like location masking, mobile advertising ID rotation and protection against SIM swapping and SS7 attacks. It employs advanced encryption and authentication protocols to secure user data.

Initially available to government officials, Cape will expand to the general public early next year.
