2024 marked a turnaround for the smartphone market, with a 4% growth following a tough 2023, according to Counterpoint Research. Xiaomi emerged as the fastest-growing brand, increasing its global market share by 1% year-over-year despite having no presence in the U.S. Its success is attributed to strategic shifts, premium devices, and innovative marketing in regions like Europe, Asia and Africa.
Samsung maintained its top position with a 19% market share, driven by the Galaxy S24 and A series, while Apple held 18%, hindered by a lukewarm reception of the iPhone 16 and limited availability of Apple Intelligence. Looking ahead, Counterpoint predicts that by 2028, 90% of smartphones over $250 will feature Generative AI capabilities.
