Apple will use Maps Look Around photos to train AI

Apple has updated its website to reveal that starting in March 2025, imagery collected for Apple Maps’ Look Around feature will be used to train AI models for image recognition, creation and enhancement. Apple gathers this data using vehicles and backpack-mounted cameras while ensuring privacy by blurring faces and license plates. The company will only use blurred imagery for AI training. Apple Intelligence already powers features like Image Playground, the Clean Up tool and improved photo search, though specific models using Look Around data remain unconfirmed.
