Meta’s first augmented reality glasses are launching next month

Meta is preparing to launch its first commercial AR glasses, codenamed Hypernova, in September for $800 – cheaper than the previously expected $1,000. Unlike Apple’s costly Vision Pro, Hypernova will focus on affordability and basic features, including a small monocular display on the right lens for notifications and Meta AI cues. The glasses will pair with a neural wristband that tracks hand gestures and also feature touch controls on the temples. While running a customized Android version, they won’t support regular apps or an app store. A second-gen model with binocular vision is expected around 2027, leading up to Meta’s full AR headset, Orion.
