Google is rolling out major upgrades to Gemini in Chrome, making it free for all Mac and Windows users in the US starting today. Gemini will now integrate with Google Workspace, Calendar, YouTube, Maps and more, letting it find and act on-screen information, summarize across tabs, recall closed pages, and compare content.
Later this year, Gemini will also handle “tedious tasks” like grocery shopping, booking appointments and rescheduling deliveries, with safeguards for high-risk actions. Mobile users get deeper page context on Android and iPhone support is coming soon.
These updates escalate the AI browser war against OpenAI’s ChatGPT Agent, Anthropic’s Claude Computer Use and Perplexity’s Comet.
