OpenAI strikes $38 billion AI training deal with Amazon

OpenAI has signed a $38 billion, seven-year deal with Amazon Web Services to access hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs for training its AI models. The move ends Microsoft’s exclusivity as OpenAI’s cloud provider, though Microsoft still retains rights to its technology until AGI is achieved. OpenAI will begin using AWS immediately, with full capacity expected by 2026 and possible expansion beyond 2027. The company also maintains major cloud agreements — including $250 billion with Microsoft Azure and $300 billion with Oracle — as Amazon continues investing heavily in Anthropic.
