Apple and Tencent have reached a major deal that lets Apple handle payments for WeChat’s in-app games and mini-apps in China, giving Apple a 15% cut of each purchase. This is a big shift, as WeChat’s apps previously bypassed the App Store entirely, earning Apple nothing. With WeChat’s 1.41 billion monthly users, the agreement could bring Apple hundreds of millions in new revenue. The reduced 15% fee is a compromise from Apple’s usual 30%, but securing such a huge market makes it a clear win for the company.
