OpenAI will retire several older models from ChatGPT’s model picker on February 13, including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and o4-mini. While GPT-4o’s earlier removal sparked backlash due to user attachment to its warmer tone, OpenAI says only 0.1% of users still select it daily.
The company notes that these models will remain available via the API for developers and highlights that ChatGPT now offers multiple personality options and custom instructions to address past concerns.
