Android phones can sometimes feel slightly laggy due to dropped frames and stuttering, but Android 17 aims to improve smoothness with a major under-the-hood change.
Google is replacing Android’s old MessageQueue system with a new “DeliQueue” approach that avoids thread bottlenecks, letting apps and system processes run more efficiently without waiting on each other.
In testing, this results in about 4% fewer dropped frames in apps and 7.7% fewer in system and launcher UI, along with slightly faster app launches.
Android 17 is now in beta and can already be tested on Google Pixel phones.
