USITC investigates Samsung, Apple and Google over spatial audio patents

The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has opened an investigation into Samsung, Apple and Google over alleged infringement of three spatial audio patents held by California-based BoomCloud 360. The patents cover technologies including audio gain adjustment, speaker asymmetry compensation and crosstalk processing.

BoomCloud 360 is seeking exclusion and cease-and-desist orders that could potentially block the import and sale of affected devices in the US. The case could therefore impact smartphones, earbuds and TVs from all three companies, although no import ban has been imposed at this stage.
