iFixit has published its teardown of the iPhone 18 Pro, offering a close look at its new variable-aperture camera, under-display Face ID camera and larger vapor chamber. The variable aperture uses six tiny electromagnetically controlled blades, but iFixit says a failure would likely require replacing the entire main camera module.
The teardown also uncovered a potential repair issue: the plastic display frame was damaged on three of four devices opened by iFixit. A damaged frame could prevent the display from sitting flush and potentially affect water resistance, although it’s unclear whether this is a widespread problem.
Other components, including the USB-C port, remain difficult to replace. iFixit has given the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max a provisional 7/10 repairability score.
