Apple originally planned a new, smaller Apple Pencil specifically for the iPhone Duo, designed to attach to the phone’s hinge side. However, the accessory reportedly encountered technical problems before mass production, so Apple switched to the existing USB-C Apple Pencil.
The iPhone Duo was designed with Apple Pencil support in mind, but the USB-C Pencil requires additional software development and extensive testing. Apple now expects support to arrive by the end of 2026, likely fairly late in the year.
It remains unclear whether Apple will eventually release the originally planned smaller Pencil or continue with the USB-C model.
