Google improves automatic workout detection on Fitbit Air

Google is upgrading Fitbit Air’s automatic workout detection with a new motion-tracking model that uses sensor data, location, routines and large language model (LLM) reasoning to better identify activities.

The update will enable the tracker to recognize more than 100 activities, including fast-paced sports such as tennis. Google says classification accuracy will improve by up to 300%, while missed workouts will be reduced by half.

The improved algorithms will also roll out to Pixel Watch models later this month.
