A new report highlights serious cybersecurity concerns after several ECOVACS Deebot X2 robot vacuums were hacked in multiple U.S. cities. Hackers gained control of the vacuums, using them to shout racial slurs, chase pets and access live camera feeds.
One Minnesota family experienced the hack firsthand, with the vacuum being remotely controlled and hurling obscenities. Security researchers had previously warned ECOVACS about vulnerabilities, including issues with Bluetooth and the PIN code system protecting the camera. ECOVACS plans to release a patch in November and has advised customers to change their passwords.
