Google’s Trust & Safety team has launched a regular advisory to raise awareness about online scams. In its first update, Google highlights five prevalent scams:
- Public Figure Impersonation: Scammers use deepfake technology to mimic public figures, promoting fake giveaways and investment schemes.
- Crypto Investment Scams: Fraudsters impersonate trusted figures and brands, promising unrealistic returns.
- Cloned Apps and Phishing Sites: Fake apps and websites are used to steal personal data or spread malware.
- Landing Page Cloaking: Scammers disguise malicious pages as legitimate to deceive users and Google.
- Exploitation of Major Events: Scams tied to events like elections or disasters leverage AI to enhance fraud.
