Google Search, long dominating online searches with over 90% market share for the past decade, has seen its share dip below 90% for three consecutive months—89.34% in October, 89.99% in November and 89.73% in December. This marks the first such drop since early 2015.
While Google remains the clear leader, competitors like Bing, Yandex and Yahoo! have gained slightly, with Bing securing nearly 4% of December searches. Interestingly, this trend benefits traditional search engines more than AI tools like ChatGPT.
The dip could also aid Google’s defense in its ongoing antitrust case by supporting its claim that users have viable alternatives.
