Android 16 is rolling out to Pixel devices first, introducing Live Updates for ride-share and food delivery apps, similar to Apple’s Live Activities. The feature offers real-time tracking and will expand to other apps like Google Maps. Android 16 also improves call quality for hearing aid users, adds native hearing device controls and introduces Advanced Protection for at-risk users. Other updates include grouped notifications, RCS group chat icons and smarter smart home shortcuts. Google’s Material 3 redesign and a desktop-like experience for Android are coming later this year.
