Amazon in talks to acquire company that connects iPhone´s satellite features

Amazon is reportedly in talks to acquire Globalstar, the partner behind satellite connectivity features for Apple devices.

A key complication is Apple’s 20% stake in Globalstar, acquired in 2024 for around $400 million, along with a $1.1 billion investment to expand its satellite network. This has significantly boosted Globalstar’s valuation.

Globalstar currently powers satellite features like Emergency SOS on newer iPhones and Apple Watches, enabling connectivity without cellular coverage.

Amazon’s interest is tied to its ambition to compete with SpaceX and its Starlink service, through its own satellite internet project, Project Kuiper.
