Youtube´s likeness detection technology will hunt for celebrity deepfakes

YouTube is expanding its AI likeness detection tool to more users in the entertainment industry, including celebrities, talent agencies and management companies, to combat the rise of deepfakes.

The feature works similarly to Content ID, scanning the platform for AI-generated videos that mimic a person’s face or voice. If unauthorized content is found, users can request its removal.

Originally introduced in 2024 for a limited group, the tool was later extended to public figures like journalists and politicians. This latest expansion aims to further reduce the spread of celebrity deepfakes.
