T-Mobile has officially launched the beta version of its Live Translation feature, offering real-time call translation in more than 80 languages. Unlike most solutions, the translation is handled through T-Mobile’s network, meaning users don’t need special hardware, software or a modern smartphone.
By dialing 87 during a call, conversations can be translated live, and only one participant needs to be a T-Mobile customer. The carrier also says translations can be delivered using the user’s own voice.
The feature is currently free for selected beta participants, though T-Mobile may introduce charges in the future. The company describes Live Translation as an early example of “network-native AI,” where processing is performed in the network rather than on the device. While convenient, the service is also likely to raise privacy questions as T-Mobile expands its AI offerings.
