Rivian rejects Apple CarPlay

Rivian is doubling down on its decision to exclude Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, focusing instead on a fully in-house software ecosystem powered by AI. The company believes advanced voice assistants will eventually replace traditional screen-based controls, creating a more seamless and safer driving experience.

Rivian’s Chief Software Officer says the future lies in “AI-defined” vehicles, where drivers interact naturally with an integrated assistant rather than apps and menus. The automaker is also developing a new infotainment chip capable of processing complex voice commands locally, reducing reliance on cloud services. Despite initial demand for Apple CarPlay, Rivian says customer interest has dropped significantly as its software platform continues to improve.
