Instagram using images from public profiles for AI content

Meta has unveiled Muse Image, its first dedicated AI image-generation model and introduced new Instagram settings that allow public posts and Reels to be used for AI-generated content.

The new options are enabled by default, meaning public profile photos, posts and Reels can be reused by Meta AI unless users manually disable the settings. Instagram also won’t notify users when their content is used for AI creations and AI-generated content already created from posts will remain available even if the settings are later turned off.

Alongside Muse Image, Meta announced Content Seal, a watermarking system for AI-generated images and previewed Muse Video, an upcoming AI video-generation tool for creators.
