Google has confirmed that Google Assistant will be discontinued on Android starting September 4, 2026, with the transition to Gemini as the default AI assistant.
The change will roll out gradually over several weeks and will also affect Wear OS watches, headphones and Android Auto devices. Google Assistant will continue working on cars with Google built-in, while Gemini expands to more devices like Google TV and smart home products.
