WhatsApp has started rolling out its new Scam Alert feature to some Android beta users, suggesting a wider release could be coming soon.
The optional feature uses on-device machine learning to identify potentially fraudulent messages from unknown senders and warn users without notifying the sender. Users can then trust the sender or block and report them.
Scam Alert must be manually enabled under Settings > Account. Meta says message content remains on the device for classification and is not automatically shared with WhatsApp, helping preserve end-to-end encryption.
