Apple reportedly considers App Store changes to increase revenue

Apple is reportedly considering changes to the App Store aimed at increasing its margins and generating more recurring revenue. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the initiative is being driven by new CEO John Ternus and Services chief Eddy Cue.

The exact changes remain unclear, but Apple could potentially increase developer fees, introduce new charges for large developers based on traffic or further automate the app review process to reduce costs.

The plans may have also contributed to Phil Schiller stepping away from his App Store responsibilities. Schiller reportedly opposed changes that could further frustrate developers and attract additional scrutiny from regulators.

Apple has yet to reveal any specific App Store changes, so it remains unclear what the company’s plans will ultimately look like.
