Google Messages sending old texts to the wrong conversations

Some Google Messages users are reporting a serious bug that causes old messages from unrelated conversations to unexpectedly reappear in new chats. In some cases, the messages are reportedly sent to the wrong recipients alongside new texts or images.

Reports have appeared on both Pixel and Samsung phones, with users saying that restarting, clearing the cache, reinstalling the app and toggling RCS have not consistently fixed the issue.

Google has acknowledged at least one report and forwarded it to its engineering team. If confirmed, the bug could pose a significant privacy risk, particularly when sensitive messages are sent to unintended recipients.
