Google is actively promoting its new video selfie feature, which allows users to set up a selfie video to help recover their Google account. The feature, launched in July, is now being advertised through a banner on Google’s desktop homepage.
The video selfie is not intended to replace passwords or passkeys and is instead designed for situations such as account lockouts. Google uses the video to verify that the user is a real person who meets its age requirements. Users may also be asked to submit a new selfie video every few months to keep their profile up to date.
