OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, two new AI models designed to offer stronger performance at a lower cost. Both models are 50% cheaper to use via the API than their GPT-5.6 counterparts.
OpenAI claims GPT-6 Sol can outperform Claude Opus 5 while costing just 9% as much, and can match Claude Fable 5.1 on complex coding tasks at a significantly lower price. The company also says GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol, while Luna delivers improved factual accuracy.
Both models are rolling out today to ChatGPT Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Edu users through ChatGPT Work and Codex. GPT-6 Luna is also available to Free and Go users in the desktop app, although the rollout is gradual.
