OpenAI is reportedly developing premium AI-powered earbuds designed to compete with Apple’s AirPods. Codenamed “Sweetpea,” the device is said to feature a unique metal “eggstone” design with pill-shaped earbuds that rest behind the ear, plus a powerful 2nm smartphone-class chip.
The earbuds could be expensive, with a bill of materials similar to a smartphone, and may launch as early as September. They’re reportedly one of five OpenAI hardware products in development, with Foxconn handling production and Jony Ive’s team prioritizing the earbuds.
