Google shared an impressive durability story of a Pixel 6a surviving six months buried in snow, rain and mud. The phone, lost by Andrew Prag while skiing in France, was geolocated but couldn’t be retrieved due to heavy snowfall. Six months later, Prag returned and found the phone functional despite its ordeal.
Another Pixel 6a survived five days in the snow after being dropped from a ski lift, highlighting the device’s IP67 water and dust resistance. Google attributes these survival tales to design features that protect against environmental factors, even though the phones aren’t built for such extremes.
The blog also detailed Google’s rigorous durability tests, including robotic simulations for real-world use cases like drops, shaking, and temperature extremes. While these survival stories are remarkable, Google advises against intentionally testing your phone’s limits.
