Meta’s AI support chatbot on Instagram has reportedly been exploited by hackers to take over high-profile accounts. According to 404 Media, attackers were able to trick the bot into changing the email addresses linked to target accounts by sending simple prompts, which led to password reset links being forwarded to attacker-controlled emails without proper verification.
Meta said the issue has since been fixed. The company had recently expanded AI-powered support tools across Facebook and Instagram, allowing the bot to handle tasks like password resets, but users have complained about a lack of access to human support during account recovery.
