A report from WIRED suggests Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses companion app may include a hidden, unreleased face-recognition feature called “NameTag.” The feature is designed to identify people seen through the glasses’ camera, converting faces into biometric data using AI models and alerting users when familiar faces appear.
The system is still under development and not available to consumers, but it appears to have been in progress since earlier this year. Meta says no final decision has been made on releasing it and denies building a central face database, emphasizing that any future rollout would be handled transparently.
