The iPhone 17 is reportedly on track to become Apple’s longest-lasting standard flagship, potentially breaking a record held by the iPhone 4 for nearly 16 years.
The iPhone 4 remained Apple’s top model for 477 days, from June 2010 until the iPhone 4S arrived in October 2011. By comparison, the iPhone 17, launched in September 2025, could remain the main flagship until the expected iPhone 18 launch in spring 2027 — roughly 18 months.
Unlike the iPhone 4 era, however, Apple is expected to continue releasing new Pro models annually, with its first foldable iPhone also reportedly arriving in 2026.
