Google is testing a new Quick insert tool for Gboard that could make it easier to add content while typing. The feature would appear as a diamond-shaped plus icon in the keyboard’s top bar.
Quick insert could provide quick access to voice input, emojis and stickers, clipboard history, images, contacts and writing tools, with search options for finding older content. The contacts tool, for example, would let users select specific details or insert all contact information at once.
While the feature looks useful, it could also make Gboard more complicated by bringing together tools that already exist separately. Google is still developing Quick insert, so it remains unclear whether it will eventually replace some existing shortcuts or simply complement them.
