Apple’s Medical ID feature helps man return iPhone lost at sea to its owner

An iPhone lost at sea was returned to its owner thanks to the Medical ID feature. Thiago Itagaki found the phone underwater at Maresias beach in São Paulo, Brazil. After drying and charging the device, Thiago used the Medical ID feature to call an emergency contact labeled “Love.” The owner, who had lost the phone on New Year’s Eve, was thrilled to have it back.

The iPhone, submerged for four days, still worked due to its water resistance, though the certification is limited to specific depths and durations. This story highlights the importance of keeping your Medical ID updated with emergency contacts, accessible via the Health app.
